The Ghana Police Service says it has deployed 5,500 police personnel for the Akwatia by-elections.
This was disclosed by COP Vans Baba Gariba, who briefed the press ahead of the September 2, 2025, by-elections.
He indicated that all personnel have been taken to their polling stations and electoral areas where they will be performing their duties and are expected to provide top-notch security during the polls.
To reassure electorates that the police are in the constituency to protect and not intimidate them, COP Vans Baba Gariba indicated that “the personnel will be engaged in community engagements to assure the electorates that they should not fear; they should all come out and cast their votes and exercise their rights as good citizens of this country.”
Meanwhile, the police have indicated that the collation center will be under strict scrutiny, as only accredited persons will be allowed entry.
In order to ensure strict adherence to protocols, the police have announced that motorbikes will not be allowed close to the polling centers on the day of the election.
Motorbikes can only be used 100m away from the various polling centers.
