— Two Okada riders killed in Manso Watreso robbery
A brazen robbery shook Mpohor in the Western Region on August 16, 2025, as armed robbers targeted a gold shop, escaping with gold and a significant amount of cash.
The incident has left the community in shock.
Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of horror, saying the robbers fired indiscriminately into the air, forcing terrified residents to scatter for safety as the onslaught dragged on for nearly 30 minutes.
According to him “Over 10 assailants made off with an undisclosed quantity of gold and money from Papa Nyame gold shop. During the heist, one person was shot and rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
The identities of the robbers remain unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Recent incidents of gold robbery in the Western Region have seen the Ghana Police Service successfully foiling plots and arresting suspects.
In April 2025, three individuals were arrested for a gold robbery incident near Jukwa, close to Afransie, where the suspects stole gold valued at GH¢199,000.
The police recovered significant evidence, including firearms and cash believed to be proceeds from the robbery.
In another incident, the police foiled a gold robbery plot in July 2025, arresting three suspects who targeted a gold consignment valued at over GH¢1.3 million.
The police secured the gold and rescued the dealer unharmed.
The Western Regional Police Command has launched manhunts for suspects in similar incidents, assuring the public that all efforts are being made to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
