The Western Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the murder of John Abban at Asemkor in the Agona Nkwanta District of the Western Region.

According to Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Western Region, the incident occurred on October 6, 2025, following a chieftaincy dispute.

“The deceased, John Abban, who was a brother of the chief of Butre and Asemkor, was attacked and murdered at Asemkor after the dispute,” Superintendent Adiku stated.

She said the suspects initially fled the town but were later traced and arrested after weeks of intelligence work.

“On October 15, 2025, sustained intelligence led to the arrest of suspects Kennedy Abor alias Abongo, aged 30, Kojo Attah Panyi, aged 20, and Joseph Basses, aged 30, at their hideout in Funko,” she disclosed.

The police later apprehended two main suspects in a joint operation between the Regional Intelligence Directorate and its Accra counterpart.

“On October 21, 2025, the team arrested Abraham Cudjoe, alias Yalle, aged 39, and Ekow Paintsil, aged 45, at their hideout in Afuaman Ayigbe Town in the Ga West Municipality,” she added.

Superintendent Adiku confirmed that all five suspects are in custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court soon.
