The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially commenced the nationwide enforcement of the mandatory use of GoldBod receipts by all licensed gold buyers across the country.
The new enforcement regime, announced in a press statement on Monday, August 18, 2025, is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and integrity within Ghana’s gold trade.
According to GoldBod, the issuance of GoldBod receipts by licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, as well as Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers, is now a compulsory requirement for the purchase and sale of gold.
The receipt serves as the official proof of transaction and a critical condition for the validity of every gold trade in Ghana.
To ensure strict compliance, the GoldBod Taskforce and Field Inspectors have been deployed nationwide to monitor transactions and inspect receipt records. Licensed buyers are therefore required to make their receipt booklets readily available for inspection and to cooperate fully with officials during monitoring exercises.
GoldBod has further urged all licensed small-scale miners and gold traders to demand GoldBod receipts for every purchase transaction they undertake with licensed buyers
The directive, according to the Board, is designed to protect the interest of miners and ensure that all gold trade in the country is properly documented.
In the statement, GoldBod warned that the non-issuance of receipts by licensed buyers constitutes a serious offence. Offenders risk facing severe sanctions, including the suspension or outright revocation of their operating licenses.
