Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has cut sod for the construction of a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre of Excellence at Salaga in the Savannah Region.
He assured that funding for the project has been fully secured and that resources have been made available for contractors to begin and complete work without delay.
The TVET Centre of Excellence at Salaga is being constructed by De Lorenzo Construction Company of Italy.
During the ceremony, Mr. Iddrisu assured the Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, Kpembewura Ndefeso Banbange I, that the project would be completed on schedule and delivered to the highest quality standards.
He further announced that 10 senior high schools would be upgraded from Category C to B and another 10 from Category B to A.
According to him, “Under President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, we will continue to improve infrastructure in dormitories, classrooms, and other facilities to enhance the quality of education.”
Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe described the initiative as a milestone, noting that technical and vocational education is now the way forward for Ghana’s youth.
He commended the Minister of Education for supporting the President’s vision to transform the region, adding that this is the first ultra-modern project of its kind to be established in the land of the Kpembe Traditional Area within nine months.
The Paramount Chief, Kpembewura Ndefeso Banbange I, expressed his appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and Minister Haruna Iddrisu for what he described as a “thoughtful and timely intervention.”
He said the project represents not only a symbol of hope but also a tangible response to the growing challenge of youth unemployment.
He pledged to ensure close monitoring of the project to guarantee that the vision of both the President and the Minister of Education is fully realised.
Roland Ruhumuriza, Area Manager for Africa at De Lorenzo Construction Company, stated that the project is expected to be completed and handed over by the next academic year.
He added that the facility will include ICT laboratories with programming and coding components, electronics and technology workshops, cosmetology units, and other modern training facilities.
