The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a man identified as Francis Alidu for allegedly possessing compressed slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

According to the police, the arrest took place on Friday, October 31, 2025, after intelligence from the Ho Police indicated that a commercial bus driver had been intercepted with the substances meant for delivery to a receiver in Ashaiman.

“Upon receipt of the information, our officers tracked and arrested the receiver, Francis Alidu, at his hideout in Ashaiman,” said ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Command.

During interrogation, the suspect received a call alerting him that another sack, believed to contain cassava, had been delivered for him near the KFC branch in Ashaiman.

Police officers rushed to the scene and retrieved the sack.

“A search conducted in the presence of the suspect revealed eighteen compressed slabs suspected to be Indian hemp hidden among the cassava,” ASP Dzakpasu stated.

She added that the suspect is currently assisting police in identifying other individuals linked to the case and will be handed over to the Ho Regional Police Command to aid investigations.
