Residents of Assin Nkukuasa were thrown into panic on Tuesday, August 19, after four armed men in military camouflage reportedly stormed the home of Nana Professor Okogyeaman Ameyaw Dankwa Okokroko II, Chief of Assin Wurakese, and whisked him away at dawn.

News of the alleged abduction spread quickly, prompting a swift response from the Central North Regional Police Command.

Patrol teams, intelligence units, and checkpoints across the Central and Eastern Regions were immediately alerted. By 9:05 a.m., a police operation intercepted a Mitsubishi pickup with registration number GN-833-24 in Asamankese, where the chief was found with four other men.

The group was detained on the orders of DCOP Abraham Acquaye, the Regional Commander.

At a press briefing the following day, DCOP Acquaye clarified that the men were operatives from the National Security Secretariat who had taken the chief to assist with an ongoing investigation.

He confirmed that by 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the police had officially handed the chief over to a recognized national security team.

While authorities insist the matter is under professional management in the interest of public safety, some residents have criticized the manner of the operation, describing it as overly aggressive and likely to cause fear among the community.
