The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially phased out the double track system, announcing that all Senior High Schools will reopen in October 2025 under single track and transitional calendars.
In a circular signed by the Director of Schools and Instructions Division, Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, the GES directed Regional Directors to ensure schools adhere strictly to the new arrangements for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Under the single track calendar, third-year students will resume on October 11, while first- and second-year students return a week later on October 18.
The first term ends on February 27, 2026, with a Christmas break from December 20 to January 4, and the second term will run from May 4 to August 21, 2026.
For transitional schools, first-years reopen on October 18, third-years on October 27, while second-years return on January 5, 2026, starting with five weeks of online learning before fully resuming in May.
The GES also confirmed that the 2026 WASSCE will be held from April 20 to June 20.
December 20–22, 2025, has been designated as a travel period ahead of the Christmas break, while the 2026/2027 academic year begins on September 11, 2026.
According to the Service, the new calendar is designed to restore consistency and ensure the smooth running of the school year across all second-cycle institutions.
