The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is investigating a case of suspected malpractice after seizing the mobile phone of an invigilator at Armed Forces Senior High Technical School in Accra.
The incident unfolded on Monday, August 25, during a monitoring exercise led by WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, as candidates were writing the Social Studies paper in the ongoing WASSCE.
The invigilator, Bright Amoah, a Visual Arts tutor at the school, was allegedly found with a phone in violation of strict examination rules.
Upon inspection, the device was discovered to contain answers to the Oral English and Picture Making papers—subjects that had already been completed.
While the materials did not relate to the paper being written at the time, WAEC has raised concerns over possible irregularities and has since invited Amoah for questioning.
Attention has also turned to the Examination Centre Supervisor, who has been asked to explain how an invigilator was able to enter the examination hall with a phone despite a strict ban on such devices.
