He has no credibility – Eric Adjei claps back at IMANI’s Kofi Bentil

Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Mr. Eric Adjei, has hit back at Vice-President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, over his recent remarks on Ghana’s cocoa sector.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, hosted by Philip Osei Bonsu aka OB, Mr. Adjei dismissed Mr. Bentil’s comments as lacking credibility.

He argued that Think Tanks such as IMANI are “problematic” and politically selective in their criticisms.

According to Mr. Adjei, Mr. Bentil often looked the other way when issues arose under the previous NPP administration but is quick to comment whenever the ruling NDC government takes action.

“He has no credibility,” the NEIP boss stressed, adding that such inconsistency undermines the relevance of Think Tanks in Ghana’s democratic space.

Mr. Bentil’s remarks were made in a previous interview. The IMANI Vice-President criticized the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), describing it as an institution that has “outlived its usefulness” and now serves largely to sustain what he called a bloated bureaucracy.

“People sitting in Accra who can’t tell the difference between a cocoa tree are the ones benefiting,” he argued, stressing that COCOBOD has become “a drain on the very farmers it was established to support.”

Mr. Bentil contrasted the current management of cocoa revenue with historical examples, noting that proceeds from cocoa once funded strategic national projects like the establishment of the University of Ghana.

“It does not make sense to take the money of poor, hardworking farmers and give it to Accra-based, suit-wearing people sitting in air-conditioned offices,” he said.
