NPP’s best bet for 2028 Is Ken, not Bawumia – Stephen Amoah

The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has suggested that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) best chance of securing victory in the 2028 general elections lies with Kennedy Agyapong, even while acknowledging the competence of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Amoah clarified that his position was not about questioning Dr. Bawumia’s capabilities but rather about the electoral dynamics that influence Ghanaian politics.

“I don’t think I have questioned the competence of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia before. Never. My issue is about the high probability of NPP winning or losing the election in 2028.

“It is not about competence. In winning an election in Ghana, it doesn’t depend only on performance,” he explained Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on August 26.

He stressed that Ghana’s voting patterns often extend beyond government performance, with regional and demographic factors playing decisive roles.

“There are a number of factors that will actually impact; they correlate with different degrees, and most of them do not necessarily mean you have performed well or not.

“We have geographical voting. I have analysed these things and I think our chance of winning with Kennedy Agyapong will be higher,” he added.

The former Deputy Finance Minister also praised Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to Ghana’s economic management during his time as head of the Economic Management Team under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, pointing to what he described as recent economic gains.
