Kwasi Kwarteng slams NPP executives for giving Bawumia ‘unfair advantage’

Legal practitioner and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Communications Team, Kwasi Kwarteng, has criticized the party’s leadership over what he describes as “unfair treatment” and “bias” in favour of one candidate in the upcoming NPP presidential primaries.

Mr. Kwarteng, who also serves as a spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong, condemned the decision by party executives to use the NPP’s official social media handles exclusively to livestream the nomination filing of one candidate, believed to be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB).

“The use of the official party’s social media handles to stream only DMB’s nomination filing is a betrayal of the very unity our leadership claims to preach,” Kwarteng wrote in a post shred on Facebook

“It is yet another example of the deliberate and consistent attempts by party leaders to give him an undue advantage in this primary, just as they did in the previous one.”

According to him, such actions have historically weakened the party and contributed to poor electoral outcomes.

“These unfortunate acts were among the reasons for our poor performance in past elections,” he said. “Under his watch, we recorded the worst results in our party’s history: a 31% drop in national votes, a 16% decline in northern votes, a 33% fall in southern votes, and virtually no support from the Zongo communities.”

Mr. Kwarteng called on the NPP leadership to focus on rebuilding party unity and restoring public confidence rather than, in his view, “imposing” a candidate on the grassroots.

“At such a time, the priority should be rebuilding a stronger, united party to restore hope and confidence,” he stressed. “Instead, leadership continues to impose the very candidate under whom we suffered these losses, shamelessly projecting him as the ‘establishment choice’ by giving him undue advantages and platforms.”

He further warned that if the leadership’s actions persist, other candidates in the race could be forced to “take their destiny into their own hands” and resist what they view as unfair treatment.

“The grassroots would not be forced into silence while the future of the party is mortgaged for one individual. Never!” he declared.
