Muntaka Mubarak says Ghana must remain vigilant in addressing the growing drug menace threatening the future of young people in Zongo communities.

Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama at this year’s World Hausa Day celebration in Accra, Muntaka led a high-powered government delegation to honor the rich cultural heritage of the Hausa people and acknowledge their contributions to Ghana’s development.

“I acknowledged the immense contributions of the Zongo and Hausa communities to Ghana’s development,” The Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency and Interior Minister said.

“I emphasised the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that only through harmony can the community’s achievements be sustained and preserved for future generations.”

The MP expressed concern over the rising rate of drug abuse among the youth, describing it as “a serious threat to their future.” He called on traditional and religious leaders to take active roles in tackling the issue while urging community elders to provide firm guidance.

“I issued a stern warning to drug kingpins and financiers, reaffirming government’s unwavering commitment to deploy security agencies to dismantle drug networks and work towards making Ghana a drug-free nation,” Muntaka added.

The event also featured remarks from the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, who praised the government for its continued leadership and support for the Muslim community.

He reiterated the importance of peace and unity and offered prayers for the President, the government, the people of Ghana, and the nation’s continued progress.

World Hausa Day, known as Ranar Hausa, is celebrated annually on August 26 by Hausa communities worldwide to showcase their rich cultural heritage, language, art, and traditions.
