Ghana will reopen its embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, after a three-month closure triggered by escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
The mission was shut down in June amid security concerns for staff and the Ghanaian community.
But in a statement released in Accra, the Ministry said conditions had improved enough to allow for the safe resumption of operations.
“With the improvement in the security situation in Iran, a decision has been taken for the Embassy to resume its operations,” the statement read.
Officials stressed, however, that Ghana remains cautious. “The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the safety of the staff working in the Embassy and the Ghanaian community in Iran is not compromised,” it added.
The Ministry said the reopening reflects growing stability in the region but emphasized that protective measures remain a priority.
Ghanaians in Iran, as well as those planning to travel there, have been urged to remain vigilant and follow guidance from the embassy.
Periodic updates on the security situation will be provided, the Ministry assured.
