The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Council has joined the rest of the nation in mourning the victims of the fatal military helicopter crash at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

Chairperson of the Council, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on Friday convened an emergency meeting in to assess the situation and discuss other pressing issues affecting the Armed Forces. The meeting was called in the wake of the tragedy which claimed the lives of several high-profile individuals, including the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

Later in the day, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang led members of the Council, alongside other senior government officials to the residence of the late Defence Minister. There, they offered condolences, comfort and assurances of continued support to his family.

Speaking after the visit, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang described the incident as “a period of deep national mourning” and extended the Council’s sympathies to all the families affected.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved. We stand with them in this difficult time, and we pray for strength and peace for every family that has suffered this loss,” she said.

The Armed Forces Council reiterated its commitment to carrying out its mandate in service to the nation, even as it grapples with the grief of losing some of its own.

The Sikaman crash has sparked an outpouring of condolences from Ghanaians at home and abroad, underscoring the collective sorrow over the sudden loss of lives in the line of duty.
