Mobile money continues to dominate Ghana’s financial landscape, with transactions reaching GHC354.1 billion in August 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data.
Although slightly lower than July’s GHC355.4 billion, the numbers reflect the sustained importance of mobile payments in everyday financial activities.
Transaction volumes also rose, climbing to 831 million in August from 778 million in July, while registered mobile money accounts reached 77.7 million, including 25.1 million active accounts. Analysts say these trends indicate growing trust in mobile money for payments, remittances, and business purposes.
Mobile money interoperability recorded notable gains, with cross-network transfers valued at GHC4.9 billion in August, supported by 26.4 million transactions.
Despite currency fluctuations and fiscal pressures, analysts note that the steady rise in digital payments demonstrates the resilience of Ghana’s payment systems, cementing mobile money as a cornerstone of the country’s financial sector.
