Mahama urges UK businesses to use Ghana as AfCFTA trade hub

President John Dramani Mahama has urged British businesses to expand their investments in Ghana, highlighting the country’s stable political climate and rapidly growing economy as an attractive destination for trade and industry.

He made the call on Friday, September 19, during a meeting with the newly appointed British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, at the Jubilee House in Accra.

President Mahama positioned Ghana as a strategic entry point for trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which offers duty-free and tariff-free access to markets across the continent.

“We are encouraging more UK companies — there are already so many of them — but we are encouraging more to come and set up in Ghana, using Ghana as a hub and as a gateway to take advantage of the AfCFTA,” he said.

“Because now, we are able to export duty-free, tariff-free into each other’s markets. So Ghana is positioning itself as the hub for manufacturing and processing into the other markets,” he added.

The President also commended the contribution of UK firms already established in Ghana, stressing that government welcomes stronger partnerships that boost local industry and promote regional trade.
