The Upper West Regional Police Command, through the Wa Magistrate Court presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avoogo, on Monday, August 11, sentenced Mohammed Ali to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour.
In a statement issued by the Police, Mohammed Ali came to their attention following a fatal motor accident at Bugubelle on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in which he was involved.
“Responding officers discovered incriminating exhibits on him at the accident site, including a quantity of ammunition and an offensive weapon”, the statement added.
According to the prosecutor, upon further interrogation, Ali admitted being aware of the items found in his possession and confessed to having knowledge of ongoing robberies in the municipality.
He also identified other accomplices, who are currently on the run.
Ali was subsequently charged with robbery, preparation to commit a crime, to wit robbery, and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
The Upper West Regional Police Command, while reiterating its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, said strenuous efforts are underway to apprehend the other accomplices and bring them to justice.
