Adansi Traditional Council wants crash site preserved to honour fallen eight

The Adansi Traditional Council has called on the government to develop the Sikaman Brofoyedru helicopter crash site in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region into a national monument and tourist attraction to honour the memory of the eight navy officers and politicians who lost their lives.

The fatal crash occurred on August 6, 2025, when a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter went down in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve near Brofoyedru-Sikaman, killing everyone on board.

On Saturday, members of the council visited the crash site to perform final cleansing rituals for residents and volunteers who assisted in retrieving the remains of the fallen officers.

Speaking to Adom News correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, the Adansi Akyeamehene, Nana Kusi Anowuo, explained that the rites were essential for the spiritual well-being of those involved.

“The rituals were necessary to protect those who took part in the recovery exercise from any spiritual consequences,” he said.

Nana Anowuo further appealed to the government to preserve the area and establish a fitting monument.

“A monument should be erected here to honour the memory of the fallen eight and to serve as a reminder for future generations,” he stressed.

According to the council, developing the site into a tourist centre would not only safeguard its historic significance but also boost cultural tourism and create economic opportunities for local communities.
