Members of Parliament led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo‑Markin visited the residence of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman‑Rawlings, to commiserate with the bereaved family and their colleague, Hon. Zanetor Agyeman‑Rawlings, MP for Korle Klottey.

Afenyo-Markin said; “Together with other colleague Members of Parliament, we visited the residence of the late former First Lady … to commiserate with the bereaved family and our colleague, Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.”

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings died on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after a short illness. She was 76 years old.

Born on November 17, 1948, in Cape Coast, Ghana, Nana Konadu completed her education at Achimota School and later studied Art and Textiles at the University of Science and Technology (now KNUST).

She married former President Jerry John Rawlings in 1977.

She served as First Lady of Ghana from June 4 to September 24, 1979, under the AFRC regime and then from December 31, 1981 to January 6, 1993 under the PNDC, and subsequently during the civilian era from January 7, 1993 to January 6, 2001.

During her time she founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, a women-focused development organisation, and later launched the National Democratic Party (NDP).
