Super Falcons winger Antoinette Oyedupe-Payne delivered a decisive performance on Sunday, providing the assist that stunned Chelsea and brought an end to their extraordinary 585-day, 34-match unbeaten streak in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Everton’s winning moment came after Oyedupe-Payne drove down the right flank and whipped in a dangerous low cross.
Although Kelly Gago narrowly missed at the near post, Honoka Hayashi reacted quickest at the back post, beating Ellie Carpenter to the ball and calmly rolling in the opener, the goal that sealed a shock 1–0 victory for the Toffees.
With that single assist, Oyedupe-Payne became the player who finally broke Chelsea’s dominance, ending a run that stretched back to last season when the Blues lifted the league title.
Everton also became the first team to defeat Chelsea in a WSL match since Liverpool did in May 2024.
Beyond the assist, the Nigerian winger delivered an all-round impressive display, creating two key passes, one big chance, and continuing her strong form with 3 assists and 1 goal in her last four matches for Everton.
This performance is especially striking considering she was left out of the Super Falcons squad for the double-legged 2026 WAFCON qualifiers against Benin, matches in which Nigeria struggled creatively.
