A young activist, Yasir Mohammed, is reportedly nursing severe injuries after allegedly being attacked with a cutlass by the bodyguard of the Deputy Minister for Tourism and MP for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah, following the activist’s public criticism of the MP’s performance and allegedly calling him “stupid”. According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred three weeks ago after the said activist, Yasir, took to social media and community platforms to draw attention to the deplorable condition of roads along the Nima Highway, which he described as a reflection of neglect in the constituency by the MP. According to some members…
Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has disclosed a private concern raised by president John Dramani Mahama about the stability of Ghana’s governance system. “He said if he fails to deliver good governance, he knows there could be a coup in Ghana, and that he and other presidents might be targeted. He emphasized that this is his biggest fear,” Domelevo stated. Speaking to Nana Jantuah on Nhyira FM’s Morning Show, Domelevo said he offered a clear response to Mahama on the matter. “I told President Mahama, and I will say it again, that no nation is immune to a coup, but…
Nigerian billionaire and politician, Prince Ned Nwoko has shared his perspective about polygamy during an interview on Sunday Politics with Seun Okinbaloye on Channels TV. Okinbaloye questioned his ability to navigate a household with four wives, saying: “You’ve done many impossible things. How do you manage 4 wives? Because it is incredibly difficult to be with a partner, not to talk of 4.” Nwoko, with a calm smile, responded with an analogy that instantly lit up social media: “The example I gave is just imagine telling you to stand on one leg, you know how difficult it is. “But to…
Panji Anoff says Ghana’s media ecosystem is failing to push originality because many DJs and presenters lack the boldness to champion new sounds. He emphasized that tastemakers shape culture, yet too many stakeholders avoid risk and instead only follow trends. “We have many people in tastemaker positions who put no effort into finding new music,” he lamented in an interview with Kafui Dey as monitored byLovinghananews.com. “If you don’t have the confidence in what you like, then you shouldn’t be choosing what songs to play on a radio station.” Panji praised legendary broadcasters like B.B. Menson, whom he credited for…
Panji Anoff believes that pidgin English may be Ghana’s strongest cultural weapon in global music, yet he says many artists are sleeping on its potential. Speaking to Kafui Dey, Panji shared that international event organizers consistently request African reggae acts who sound distinctly African, not like Jamaican clones. “If they want some reggae from Africa, they don’t want a Ghanaian who sounds like Bob Marley or Sean Paul,” he stressed. “They want someone who sounds like they come from here.” He compared the situation to Jamaican artists who visit Ghana and easily pick up the local pidgin but avoid faking…
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Hajia Shamima Muslim has called for a shift in national attitude toward finding solutions rather than dismissing new ideas. She urged Ghanaians to move beyond constant criticism and embrace practical steps toward progress. “If we really want to build this nation, we must quickly switch our mindset to solutions offering rather than pointing out all the ways in which an idea cannot work,” she said on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana monitored byLovinghananews.com. Her comments came during a discussion on the use of local languages as a medium of instruction in early education. She pointed out that…
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Hajia Shamima Muslim has defended the new policy that local languages be used as a medium of instruction for early-grade pupils, describing it as a well-established and evidence-based educational practice. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana monitored by Lovinghananews.com, she explained that research supports the use of the mother tongue, or L1, to teach young learners. “Research has shown that if you are able to use the language a child understands in the early grade to explain simple concepts, they are more grounded in the learning and the concepts,” she said. Responding to critics who question…
Policy think tank IMANI Africa has raised serious concerns about Rektron Group’s proposed $1 billion investment in AirtelTigo (AT Ghana), describing the Canadian company’s financial capacity as “alarmingly thin” and “inadequate for a strategic rescue.” In its detailed governance and economic analysis, IMANI revealed that Rektron, a commodities trading firm, reported $2.5 billion in revenue in 2024 but only $30.5 million in gross profit, translating to a razor-thin 1.2% margin. Its equity base stood at $120.9 million, far below AT Ghana’s liabilities of GHS 2.71 billion (approximately US$225 million). “Rektron’s promise of $1 billion was not backed by its own…
IMANI Africa has expressed concern about Ghana’s approach to managing strategic partnerships in its telecommunications sector, describing the country’s long struggle to rescue AirtelTigo (AT Ghana) as a “cautionary tale” of speculative deals and weak oversight. According to IMANI’s latest governance analysis, the revolving door of “strategic partners”, from Hannam Investments through Rektron Group to Telecel Ghana, exposes deeper problems in how the state evaluates and engages investors in vital national infrastructure. “For nearly a decade, AirtelTigo has been the problem child of Ghana’s telecommunications sector,” IMANI observed. “Once heralded as a competitive alternative to MTN, the company has instead…
The Government plans to borrow GH¢75.7 billion from the domestic market between October and December 2025, as part of efforts to meet its public sector financing needs and refinance maturing debts. According to the latest issuance calendar released by the Bank of Ghana, about GH¢67.5 billion of the amount will go toward rollover maturities, while the remaining GH¢8.2 billion represents fresh issuance to support government expenditure and fiscal operations for the fourth quarter. The Central Bank says the borrowing will be executed through the regular issuance of 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day Treasury bills, alongside possible reopenings of existing bonds under…
