The Electoral Commission has reopened nominations for the Tamale Central by-election after two candidates abruptly withdrew, leaving the NDC’s Prof. Seidu Alidu as the sole contender. In a statement on Friday, September 12, the Commission said nominations would run from September 12 to 21, 2025, in line with Article 50(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires a ten-day window if only one candidate remains after nominations close. Police in Tema have intercepted a truck loaded with 315 compressed parcels of suspected Indian hemp hidden in vehicle tyres, leading to the arrest of four men. The suspects, 44-year-old Nura Sali, 49-year-old Pius Chukwuma, 18-year-old Mustapha Umar, and 23-year-old Abdulai Amayau, were picked up at the Tema Industrial Area during an operation by officers from the Community 1 District Police. Police in Utah have identified the suspect who killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Governor Spencer Cox confirmed Robinson’s identity Friday, appearing alongside FBI Director Kash Patel and other officials.
