Today the Australian government signed a contract with Boeing Defence Australia to transition the MQ-28A Ghost also known as the “loyal wingman” drone due to its capability of flying alongside manned platforms like the F-35A into production. The initial contract is valued at US$930 million which includes six MQ-28A aircraft, plus funding for an enhanced Block 3 prototype. Recently a Ghost Bat downed an aerial drone target using an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile at the Womera testing ground showing combat capabilities. The Ghost Bat was designed entirely in Australia by Boeing Australia.
