There is no doubt that many Ghanaians stand with the Communications Minister, Sam George, in this unending tussle with Multichoice Limited, operators of DSTV. But I’m wondering whether the law, too, is on the side of the minister. Long before this tussle, I’d heard Ghanaians complain and compare the prices of DSTV subscriptions. Some Ghanaians, thanks to a loophole in DSTV’s system—and perhaps the NCA regulations—subscribe and pay for DSTV from Nigeria, which is cheaper than DSTV’s subscription prices in Ghana. It is for this reason that Ghanaian subscribers overwhelmingly support the call for price reduction. In this piece, however,…
In one of the most staggering mineral discoveries of our time, Uganda has uncovered over 31 million metric tonnes of gold ore, with more than 320,000 tonnes of refined gold waiting to be extracted. This gold bonanza estimated to be worth over $12 trillion could elevate Uganda into the elite league of global gold producers. If managed effectively, it could revolutionize the country’s economy, drive massive foreign investment, and disrupt the balance of international gold markets. With the right infrastructure, partnerships, and sustainable practices, Uganda’s mining industry may usher in a new era of prosperity and geopolitical influence. The world…

The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana (MDC) has identified quackery as a major challenge currently affecting medical practice in the country. Between 2024 and the third quarter of 2025, four individuals have been arrested in connection with unlicensed medical practice. Several others are under active investigation, with prosecution pending. Another issue flagged by the Council is the submission of forged qualifications in attempts to obtain clearance to practice in Ghana. In a media engagement on Friday, September 5, the Registrar of the MDC, Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, stated that while these incidents cut across various regions and professions, the…
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has reported a significant rise in the country’s gold reserves, which reached 36.02 tonnes at the end of August 2025, the highest in Ghana’s history. Data released by the central bank shows a steady month-on-month build-up from 8.78 tonnes in May 2023, when the reserves’ expansion programme began, to the current record levels. This represents more than a fourfold increase in just over two years. The growth reflects the success of the Bank’s domestic gold purchasing programme, designed to diversify foreign reserves, stabilise the cedi, and reduce reliance on external markets for forex liquidity. In…
