The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has rubbished an opinion poll projecting a win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Bediako, in the upcoming Akwatia by-election. The survey, conducted by Global Info Analytics between August 27 and 28 with 2,050 sampled voters, suggested that Bediako was leading with 53%, while the NPP’s Solomon K. Asumadu trailed at 47%. This marked a turnaround from the baseline poll, which had placed Asumadu slightly ahead with 50% against Bediako’s 44%. But speaking in an interview on Channel One, Salam Mustapha insisted that the ruling party…
Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, is of the view that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shouldn’t have contested for the Akwatia by-election. According to him, the party should have known that since they are not in power, the seat should have been given automatically to the NDC because they can help develop Akwatia. He was speaking at Akwatia, where he has been campaigning ahead of the September 2, 2025, by-election. “I am of the view that the NPP shouldn’t have contested the Akwatia seat. They should have left it for us because we are the ones…

Franklin Cudjoe, President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, has criticized the sentencing of eight men convicted for their role in violent disturbances during the Ablekuma North parliamentary by-election. Speaking in an interview on Channel One, Mr Cudjoe said the punishment handed down by the Accra Circuit Court was not tough enough to deter future incidents of electoral violence. “I am not too sure and happy about the sentencing in the case of Ablekuma. I think they should have been punished a lot more. So that people are deterred from getting involved in acts of violence and electoral hooliganism,” Mr.…
Gunfire shattered the Homowo celebrations in Sowutuom on Saturday, August 30, 2025, leaving two people feared dead and several others injured. “After the Chelsea game, we suddenly heard gunshots from the junction. For almost 30 minutes, bullets were flying everywhere,” an eyewitness told JoyNews, describing scenes of panic as residents fled for safety. Another recalled seeing “about five armed men storming the area, shooting left, right, center.” According to residents, the violence was triggered when members of the Dwenewoho community attempted to sprinkle Kpokpoi — a traditional dish central to the festival — in Sowutuom. Local traditional leaders reportedly opposed…
Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has attributed the persistent irregularities in the Auditor-General’s reports to what he describes as years of poor political leadership. Speaking on The Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, August 30, Mr. Bentil expressed concern over the recurring payroll fraud and financial infractions uncovered annually. “We are seeing these irregularities every year because of the poor political leadership we have had over the years. It’s sad that we continue to have issues about payroll fraud,” he said. Mr. Bentil further argued that the problem persists because those implicated in the Auditor-General’s reports are rarely…

The Adansi Traditional Council has called on the government to develop the Sikaman Brofoyedru helicopter crash site in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region into a national monument and tourist attraction to honour the memory of the eight navy officers and politicians who lost their lives. Movement for Change member, Solomon Owusu, has dismissed suggestions that his resistance to extending John Dramani Mahama’s mandate beyond 2028 is tied to Alan Kyeremanteng’s presidential ambitions. “No, but the fact that John Mahama contests in 2028 does not mean Alan will not contest. There is no clear-cut rule that once President Mahama is in the picture, Alan will lose. After all, Mahama has gone into an election and lost and won some,” Owusu stated on Joy Prime in an interview monitored by Lovinghananews.com. He argued that Africa’s history is filled with examples of leaders who overstayed their welcome, to…
