According to reports, the woman — who owns a local tavern — began operating the illegal detention space on 2 December 2025. She is accused of locking up customers who became viol_ent after drinking, as well as those who failed to pay their bills. Authorities say she allegedly detained 36 people for drinking at her tavern without paying, and for outstanding debts. She is also reported to have locked up men who assaulted women while drunk at the tavern. Police arrested her after receiving complaints from some of the victims. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) says it will keep working to maintain water flow across the country, but Ghanaians should not expect round-the-clock supply under the current tariff regime.
