– John Mahama Promises Jobs for Youth in Fight Against Illegal Mining President John Mahama has announced plans to recruit more young people into the Forest Replanting and Blue River Guard programs to help protect Ghana’s forests and water bodies from destruction. He revealed that the Finance Minister has been directed to increase budget allocations to support this initiative, ensuring more employment opportunities for youth in areas affected by illegal mining. “These young people will be drawn from communities hit hardest by galamsey and will receive a monthly stipend of GH₵1,500,” President Mahama stated. Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Kwadwo Baffoe Bonnie, has revealed the reason behind the 70-year prison sentence he handed to notorious armed robber Ataa Ayi years ago. According to him, the decision was influenced by concerns for personal safety and public protection. “If I had given him 30 years, I’d probably be the first person he’d come after when he got out,” he said. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is secretly supporting some of his rivals in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race because they fear his eventual success. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for stronger measures to end illegal mining, warning that the galamsey menace is destroying the nation. Speaking at the 29th GJA Awards, he described the situation as “a mafia-like operation” that could soon engulf the entire country if left unchecked. The Ghana Police Service has declared Mark Agingre, a native of Binduri, wanted for a string of gruesome murders in the Binduri District and nearby communities in the Upper East Region. Agingre is accused of murdering a man, his wife, and their three children on November 7, 2025, leaving one child critically injured and receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Government Hospital.
