The Bank of Ghana on Friday, October 31, 2025 hosted over 250 school pupils from five different schools at the Bank Square for a currency education session, focusing on the Cedi’s history and evolution, and fun games.

The schools are Independence Avenue Basic School (1&2), St. George’s Anglican Basic School, Bishop Mixed Basic School, Accra Sempe School, and St. Barnabas Basic School.

Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously, emphasising they are the country’s future.

He shared words of wisdom with the pupils, alongside his deputies, Dr. Zakari Mumuni and Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu.

The day ended with music, lunch, and smiles all around — a true celebration of learning, legacy, and national pride.

The Bank of Ghana marked 60 years of the Ghanaian Cedi, initiating a year-long series of national events to reflect on the currency’s historic journey and its pivotal role in Ghana’s economic independence.

The launch, held on October, 28 2025 in Accra, included exhibitions, policy dialogues, and stakeholder engagements aimed at strengthening public confidence and promoting financial innovation.

The celebration also features academic discussions and public education programmes across the country to deepen understanding of Ghana’s monetary heritage.

The Cedi@60 commemoration, themed “Sovereignty, Stability, and Resilience”, will run throughout the year and is expected to culminate in policy forums and national engagements promoting greater trust in the cedi and highlighting its enduring role in Ghana’s economic story.
