Deputy Majority Leader donates essential items to fresh SHS students in Cape Coast

The Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Cape Coast South Constituency, Mr. George Kwaku Ricketts-Hagan, has reaffirmed his commitment to education by donating essential school supplies to fresh Senior High School (SHS) students in his constituency.

The lawmaker presented 300 school bags, 300 trunks, 300 mattresses, and 300 chop boxes to newly admitted SHS students to ease the financial burden on their parents.

Speaking to Lovinghananews.com reporter Alhassan Mohammed after the presentation, Mr. Ricketts-Hagan said the gesture was part of his long-standing effort to motivate students and promote education in the area.

He explained that after realizing the number of beneficiaries had exceeded expectations, he provided additional items to ensure no student was left behind due to a lack of basic necessities.

“We are gathered here to support our children who have been blessed to gain admission to various secondary schools as first-year SHS students.

“I am supporting them as I have done for the past thirteen years to assist parents with the essential items their children need to attend school,” he stated.

Mr. Ricketts-Hagan further noted that his support, which initially focused on bright and needy students, has now been expanded to include all children who require assistance to continue their education.

“I used to do it for the bright and needy, but I have realized that some kids are late starters. A child who may not be bright today could become top of their class tomorrow.

“It is important to help all students who need support to go to secondary school,” he added.

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. George Justice Arthur, commended the MP for his dedication and collaboration in easing the financial burden on parents within the metropolis.

“My only advice to the beneficiaries is that they should focus on their education and ensure their future becomes bright.

“Who knows? One day, someone among them may become the President or Vice President of Ghana,” he remarked.

Mr. Arthur also revealed that the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly is developing bylaws to restrict children under 18 from being outdoors beyond 9 p.m., emphasizing that such measures would help safeguard their future.
