Referees across Ghana’s top football competitions will receive increased match fees in the 2025/26 season as part of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) efforts to improve officiating conditions according to Ghana Football Association(GF) president Kurt Okraku.

The GFA boss made this interesting revelation during the 31st Ordinary Congress which happened in Tuesday at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Under the new structure, FIFA-accredited referees will earn GHS 2,500 per game, while non-FIFA referees handling Ghana Premier League matches will receive GHS 2,000. Referees officiating in the Division One League and Women’s Premier League will each be paid GHS 1,000 per match.

The increment comes alongside other welfare initiatives, including comprehensive insurance packages covering life, health, and work-related risks for all referees in the country.

The GFA approved holistic insurance policy for all the 280 referees who be officiating in the GPL, WPL and DOL this season.

The insurance will cover the following:

1. Group life cover
2. Critical illness
3. Medical expenses
4. Workmen’s Compensation
Other Complimentary Benefits

1. Spouse benefits
2. Child benefits
3. Parents benefits
4. Funeral support benefits

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku said the move was aimed at motivating officials and improving the overall quality of refereeing.

“Improved welfare is key to the performance and integrity of our referees. This is an investment in the credibility of our competitions,” he noted.

The new rates will take effect from the opening round of the 2025/26 season
