Tema Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ian Oquaye, has dismissed allegations of wrongdoing in a land transaction involving his wife, insisting that he is being targeted because of his political affiliation.
The Tema Development Company (TDC) Limited has accused Mr. Oquaye, a former protocol officer at the company, of facilitating the sale of a public plot of land at Tema Community 5 to his wife for GH₵2,000. The land was originally designated for the construction of a public toilet facility.
TDC Managing Director, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, told journalists in Accra on Thursday, September 4, that Mr. Oquaye’s contract was terminated following an internal investigation into the matter. He explained that the action was part of the company’s broader efforts to recover encroached or illegally acquired lands to support infrastructure and housing development.
Responding to the allegations on Citi Eyewitness News, Mr. Oquaye maintained that the land acquisition process was transparent.
He argued that he is being unfairly singled out because of his role as a political figure.
“I’m a public officer, I work with TDC, at the same time, I’m a constituency secretary of the NPP. Please read between the lines. I don’t want to banter with anybody. But I know that my position as a constituency secretary of the NPP and working for a political party. So these are some of the things that go with it.
“When the government changes, they will definitely come after you, based on where you are coming from. And I understand it perfectly,” he said.
