Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper has issued a stark warning that the escalating Iran conflict will inevitably impact Ghana’s economy.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition, Terkper urged Ghanaians to brace for rising fuel prices and economic shocks as global crude oil prices react to Middle East tensions.
“Crises are inevitable. You cannot run an economy for four years without one crisis or the other, domestic or external,” he said.
He stressed the need for preparation, pointing to the cyclical nature of global markets and Ghana’s vulnerability.
“Commodity prices, we don’t control them. They go up, and they go down. This will appear,” he warned, calling for counter-cyclical policies to cushion the impact.
His message was simple: shocks are coming, the question is whether Ghana will be ready.
