The Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), of Nkoranza South zone B, in the Bono East Region holds a graduation ceremony for its apprentices to celebrate their completion of a three-year training as apprenticeship.

The association provided practical training and motivated members to proactively meet and exceed consumer demands and expectations.

The training, which is aimed at providing a central organization for tailors and seamstresses nationwide, was defined with its objective as harnessing essential skills and resources for effective impact on fashion, as the trainers evolved a national fashion identity and making Ghanaians appreciative of their culture manifested clothing.

Eighteen (18) graduates were given certificates and results of their exams to indicate that they are qualified to go into the job market to show their talents.

The graduation is organized annually for apprentices who have successfully completed their skill training, and its the first time for the Nkoranza GNTDA zone B.

Presented at the event were the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkoranza North, Hon. Effah Patrick, the Bono Regional chairman of the GNTDA, Effah Amos and his henchmen, chiefs and some Queen mothers in the Nkoranza enclave.

The Nkoranza zone B Chairman of GNTDA, Kongwie Francis, in an interview with Fabea FM’s Apiah-Kubi, noted that tailors and seamstresses play a critical role in human development, as almost everyone depends on them for their outfits.

According to him, lack of skill is often cited as a major impediment to the employability of youth in Ghana, and that apprenticeship training is a promising avenue that will utilize effectively to market-ready skills.

He emphasized that most youths in the apprenticeship training seemed lack of academic intelligence but they are more intelligent as how they are able to measure and sew the garments.

“I will urge the youth to enroll in the government’s apprenticeship program”, Francis stated.

“This is an acute market opportunity for those who graduated, because people will recognize and rely on them for their fashioned outfits; therefore, the graduates need to be proactive after this event”, Francis added.

He acknowledged the graduates for their unwavering period in the program, and urged them to be poised in their endeavors after they had established their own enterprises.

He added that the apprenticeship program will continue to promote apprenticeship training to harness the knowledge of the youth and entrepreneurs to deliver market relevant skills to a scalable and potentially cost-effective manner.

“Some of you are waifs, and I pray that you all have your time of success in your endeavors”, Francis expressed.

Some apprentices, after the graduation ceremony, expressed gratitude to the management for the initiative, saying the training has made them acquire handy work.
