A rescue team from the Mankessim Fire Service swiftly responded to a tragic road crash at Kormantse on the Mankessim–Cape Coast stretch of the Accra–Cape Coast Highway early this morning.
The accident involved a Mercedes Benz with registration number AS 4146-25, traveling from Cape Coast to Accra, and a Rhino truck with registration number GW 5958-25, heading in the opposite direction.
According to eyewitness accounts, most of the occupants managed to self-rescue, while others were assisted by passersby before the Fire Service team arrived.
The rescue team extricated two individuals who were trapped in the vehicle, both of whom are suspected to be dead.
With the support of other stakeholders, the road has since been cleared and reopened to traffic.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. Most of the victims have been transported to the Saltpond Government Hospital for treatment.
