The Government of Ghana has officially announced a three-day period of national mourning from Thursday, 7 August to Saturday, 9 August 2025, in honour of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the recent military helicopter crash in Obuasi.
According to a statement issued by Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the period will provide the nation with an opportunity for collective reflection, remembrance, and healing.
The commemorative activities will begin on Thursday, 7 August with a public laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency, starting at 1:00 p.m.
The public, as well as family members and friends of the deceased, are respectfully invited to participate in this act of national remembrance.
This opportunity will continue on Friday, 8 August, allowing more time for citizens to express their condolences and pay their respects.
The national mourning period will conclude on Saturday, 9 August with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials”, to be held at the Forecourt of the State House beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The event will bring together Ghanaians from all walks of life to honour the lives and legacies of the departed.
“These three days offer our nation a vital opportunity to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss we have experienced.
