Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday, September 22, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Founder’s Day.
The holiday, which honours the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, falls on a Sunday this year.

In a statement signed by Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, it was announced that President John Dramani Mahama has, by Executive Instrument, directed the nationwide observance of the holiday.

The decision aligns with the recent 2025 amendment to the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, which stipulates that holidays falling on a weekend are to be observed on the following Monday.

The holiday calendar was revised by Parliament earlier this year, reinstating July 1 as Republic Day, adding “Shaqq Day” after Eid-ul-Fitr, removing August 4 as a Founders’ Day, and restoring September 21 as Founder’s Day.
