Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has pledged increased government support to strengthen the operational capacity of the Ghana Navy, as part of efforts to enhance maritime security and promote the country’s Blue Economy agenda.
Addressing personnel at the 11th Ghana Navy Memorial Day parade held at the Western Naval Command in Sekondi, the Vice President praised the Navy’s role in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial waters and acknowledged the contributions of fallen service members.
While commending the Navy’s achievements, the Vice President acknowledged persistent logistical and infrastructure challenges affecting its operations, including the lack of platforms and critical facilities. She assured naval leadership that government is actively working to close these gaps.
“Government has been made aware of the constraints facing the Navy, including insufficient platforms and other facilities,” she said.
“We are exploring every avenue to better equip the Ghana Navy and will tackle the other challenges with the urgency they deserve.”
She further urged continued collaboration among maritime agencies to reinforce national security and protect marine resources.
“I entreat you to continue to work hard in collaboration with other maritime stakeholders to improve maritime security and preserve our territorial integrity,” she added.
