A new poll by the Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, is the current frontrunner in the race to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 elections.
According to the survey, Haruna Iddrisu leads the pack with 30% support, followed by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 24%, and Finance Minister Ato Forson with 18%.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah secured 10%, while North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa polled 8%.
Other aspirants, including Eric Opoku (2%), Joshua Alabi (2%), Armah-Kofi Buah (2%), Kwame Awuah-Darko (2%), Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah (1%), and Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije (0%), trail behind.
The poll further explored scenarios with fewer candidates in the race. In a three-horse contest excluding Ato Forson, Haruna Iddrisu widens his lead to 45%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 37% and Julius Debrah’s 18%.
Among NDC voters, Haruna’s support climbs to 47%, with Asiedu Nketia at 39% and Julius Debrah at 14%.
In the key swing regions, Haruna also dominates with 48%, ahead of Asiedu Nketia at 37% and Julius Debrah at 15%.
However, the poll revealed that when Haruna Iddrisu is excluded, the race narrows considerably.
Asiedu Nketia leads with 40%, closely followed by Ato Forson at 38%, while Julius Debrah secures 22%. Among NDC voters, the contest is virtually tied, with Asiedu Nketia at 42%, Ato Forson at 41%, and Julius Debrah at 17%. In the swing regions, however, Ato Forson edges ahead with 47%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 38% and Julius Debrah’s 15%.
The findings suggest that while Haruna Iddrisu currently commands the strongest overall support, the race could become highly competitive if he is not in contention, with Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson emerging as near-equal frontrunners.
