President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities and programmes for the rest of the week.

This was disclosed by the Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a statement issued on August 6.

He said this development follows “Wednesday’s national tragedy involving eight persons who died in a helicopter crash.”

The deceased are; Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment and Science, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC ruling, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

There will be three days of national mourning starting tomorrow, Thursday, 7 August 2025. The government, through the Chief of Staff, has meanwhile directed that all flags must fly at half-mast until further notice,” Mr Ofosu added.

At an emergency press briefing at the Presidency, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah announced the death of these individuals and confirmed the incident.

The officials together with the crew members were en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region for a national event.

“The President and the government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our Comrades and the service men who died in service to the country,” Chief of Staff announced.
