Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said his appointment to the portfolio did not come as a surprise, noting that years of parliamentary work and dedicated service had prepared him for the role.
Speaking in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, September 17, Mr. Ablakwa reflected on his long-standing involvement in foreign affairs and governance, stressing that his background made him ready for the responsibility.
“I really prepare myself for every opportunity to serve the country. Recall that I was Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee for about seven and a half years, and then for the last half of the year I was asked to chair the Government Assurances Committee. But I was retained on the Foreign Affairs Committee to offer guidance to the new leadership,” he said.
He added that his experience as Ranking Member gave him the skills and insight needed to manage the ministry effectively.
“I think that I was really prepared as Ranking Member for this role, so it didn’t come to me as a surprise. I have to be honest,” he said.
