Six people have been killed and 18 others injured in Gbiniyiri, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region, after clashes over land ownership turned violent on Sunday.
The conflict forced women and children to flee, while properties were destroyed, leaving the community tense and unsettled.
In response, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, led a team of top security officers to the area.
About 300 personnel have been deployed from Accra to Gbiniyiri and adjoining communities to reinforce security and restore calm.
Before his visit to Gbiniyiri, Mr. Yohuno met with the Regional Security Council, chaired by Minister Salisu Bi-Awuribe, for a full briefing.
He later proceeded to the Jakpa Palace, where he and other security chiefs sought the intervention of the Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I.
The IGP stressed that the disturbances were unprecedented in recent times and urged the Yagbonwura to appeal directly to the feuding parties to cooperate with security agencies.
The Overlord, in turn, pledged his commitment to peace, calling on the youth to put down their weapons and resolve disputes through lawful means.
Meanwhile, six suspects arrested in connection with the violence have been granted bail.
