Julius Neequaye Kotey, CEO of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has issued a clear warning stating that only licensed car dealers are permitted to drive vehicles bearing “DV” plates.
In an exclusive interview on JoyPrimeTV, Julius Neequaye Kotey indicated that the use of these plates by non-dealers is explicitly prohibited under current regulations.
He emphasized that unauthorized use of DV plates, such as by private individuals or unlicensed operators, is illegal and may attract serious penalties.
Mr. Kotey further clarified that DV plates are intended strictly for vehicles in the possession of licensed dealers, often used during transportation, showcasing, or repair assignments.
Individuals who have recently cleared a vehicle through customs must register it with the DVLA within 14 days; driving with DV plates beyond this timeframe is also unlawful.
These regulations are part of broader reforms being introduced at the DVLA. Among these changes is the launch of “Dealer’s Permit (DP)” stickers, designed to enhance accountability and traceability.
