Vice President Jane Opoku-Agyemang marked this year’s Founders’ Day with a visit to Rev. Christian Tsui Hesse, popularly known as Chris Hesse, the personal photographer of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

In a post shared on her Facebook page as sighted by MyNewsGh, the Vice President described Rev. Hesse as “one of Ghana’s most celebrated cinematographers and filmmakers,” noting that he is responsible for preserving a priceless visual record of the nation’s political leadership and development.

She was accompanied by leading figures of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Goosie Tanoh and Mr. Alex Segbefia.

“I expressed my gratitude for Rev. Hesse’s work documenting and safeguarding Ghana’s history.

His archives capture the facts of our nation’s journey and remain an invaluable national treasure at a time when narratives are too often distorted,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang wrote.

She further assured the veteran photographer of government’s commitment to preserving his works and making them accessible for generations to come.

“I assured him of our commitment to safeguarding these archives and filling the gaps to ensure the next generation has access not only to data but to the qualitative truths of our story,” she stated.

Reflecting on the significance of his contributions, the Vice President stressed the importance of preserving Ghana’s history for future generations.

“His contributions underscore the importance of owning and preserving our history.

“As we reflect on Founders’ Day, we are reminded of Nkrumah’s declaration of our independence representing an unfinished but bold step toward African liberation.

“Today, with global shifts underway, the lessons from that era remain highly relevant,” she added.

She concluded her message with warm wishes for Rev. Hesse; “I thank Rev. Chris Hesse for his extraordinary service to our nation and pray for his continued strength and good health.”
