Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo has shared an optimistic update on Ghana’s agricultural prospects following his participation in the ongoing World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington D.C.

In a post shared on social media sighted by Lovinghananews.com, Dumelo revealed that the World Bank Group has committed to doubling its annual global investment in agribusiness to $9 billion — a move he believes will have a significant impact on Ghana’s agricultural landscape.

“Currently partaking in the World Bank/IMF annual meetings in Washington DC alongside other Agricultural Ministers and Global Development partners. The World Bank Group has pledged to double its yearly investment in agribusiness to $9 billion globally,” Dumelo stated.

According to him, the decision will serve as a catalyst for job creation, poverty reduction, and improved food security across developing nations, including Ghana.

“This is critical to creating jobs, reducing poverty, and improving global food security,” he emphasized.

The actor-turned-politician explained that Ghana stands to benefit immensely from the initiative, particularly through increased access to low-interest agricultural loans, better post-harvest management systems, and expanded irrigation facilities.

“What this means for Ghana is more jobs being created in agriculture, access to low interest agric loans, managing of post harvest losses as well as heavy investment in irrigation to achieve our all year round farming initiative,” Dumelo added.
