Medeama SC were forced to share the spoils with FC Samartex in a pulsating 1-1 draw at the TNA Park in Tarkwa on Saturday, as Kingsley Braye’s late equaliser denied the visitors a memorable away win.
Samartex, who continue to impress this season, took a stunning lead in the 39th minute through Dramani Awuah.
The midfielder produced a moment of brilliance with a long-range strike from the centre of the pitcha goal worthy of Puskás Award recognition — catching the Medeama goalkeeper off his line and silencing the home crowd.
Awuah’s wonder goal looked set to hand the Timber giants all three points and end their winless run at TNA Park. However, Medeama dug deep and kept pushing, and their persistence paid off in the dying minutes of the game when Kingsley Braye found the back of the net to level the score.
The draw keeps Medeama at the top of the Ghana Premier League table with 13 points, although their lead is under threat from second-placed Hearts of Lions, who sit just two points behind with a game in hand against reigning champions GoldStars.
Despite their solid performance, Samartex’s away form remains a concern. While they are one of only four unbeaten sides in the league, they have drawn all of their away matches and scored just one goal on the road — Awuah’s wonder strike in Tarkwa.
Medeama continue to enjoy a strong home record against Samartex, maintaining their unbeaten run in Tarkwa since the visitors joined the top flight in 2022.
In four league encounters at TNA Park, Medeama have now won two and drawn two.
As the title race begins to heat up, Medeama will look to extend their lead at the top, while Samartex will aim to convert solid performances into wins, especially away from home.
