MSDA launches sustainable water project to solve Saltpond Hospital’s chronic shortages

Saltpond Municipal Hospital has long struggled with an inconsistent water supply, a challenge that has affected both patients and the hospital’s daily operations.

The Mfantseman-Saltpond Development Agency (MSDA), led by Founder Ernest De-Graft Egyir, has stepped in to address the crisis without government support.

At the sod-cutting ceremony for the Sustainable Water Project at Saltpond Hospital, Osagyefo Ernest De-Graft Egyir highlighted the hospital’s chronic water shortages, which have impacted medical care, sanitation, and routine activities.

He said, “The youth are taking a bold and lasting step to change that story.”

Osagyefo De-Graft Egyir explained that the Sustainable Water Project is designed to provide the hospital with a permanent and self-sufficient water supply system.

The project includes drilling underground water sources, installing high-capacity storage tanks, setting up an electrical pumping and boosting system, and integrating a solar-powered generation unit, all connected to the hospital’s existing water network.

“This is not just a water project; it is an engineering solution that guarantees reliable, clean, and continuous water supply to sustain healthcare delivery.

“It is a model of sustainable infrastructure powered by innovation and guided by purpose,” he added.

He also commended MSDA members both in Ghana and abroad who contributed to the project.

“In fact, you are the true partners of progress. This is what community leadership looks like, when citizens come together to solve their own challenges rather than wait for others to act,” Osagyefo De-Graft Egyir said.

He noted that the initiative demonstrates the power of unity and purpose; “It shows that when people share a vision, contribute their resources, and act in faith, transformation becomes inevitable.”

Appealing to the youth of Mfantseman, he added, “Let’s continue to rebuild, reconnect, and rise together.

“The future of Saltpond and Mfantseman is in our hands, and with commitment and unity, there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

Mr. James Korsah-Brown, who contested the 2020 Parliamentary primaries for the Mfantseman Constituency on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket, also praised the MSDA team on his Facebook wall for their contributions to the hospital’s development.

“Let me use this opportunity to shine the spotlight on the Mfantseman-Saltpond Development Agency led by my brother Ernest Egyir, for a job well done on the Sustainable Water Project at Saltpond Hospital.

“I am very happy that our generation is actively involved in community development and providing good growth synergy.

“This reminds me of my first two installations of water systems at Yamoransa and Eguase over five years ago,” Korsah-Brown said.
