Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has urged Ghanaians not to make the tragic loss of two Ministers and six others in a helicopter crash be in vain towards the fight against galamsey.
he crew on board the Z9 military helicopter were on their way to a national event in Obuasi; the launch of Responsible Cooperative Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 when the tragedy struck.
The programme is intended to improve the small-scale and artisanal mining sector, while providing jobs and viable economic opportunities especially to those in mining communities across the country.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the residence of the late Murtala Mohammed, Ras Mubarak noted that the loss of these individuals should help bring a lasting solution to the fight against galamsey.
He explained that the best tribute for these gallant souls would be that by the time e mark their anniversary a year on, illegal mining would have no longer existed in the country.
We must endeavour not to make their sudden departure be in vain. How did this happen? Where were they heading to? They were heading to a programme that is in relation to the fight against galamsey.
