The National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing the former First Lady as a personal and familial icon.
Speaking about her relationship with the late stateswoman, Dr. Bisiw-Kotei said, “She is my mum. I have never called her madam before. Most of the time, she would call me Ama. So for me, we have lost an icon.”
She added, “I call her mummy because of our relationship as a family way back to the revolution time,” highlighting the close personal bond they shared beyond the public and political spheres.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away at the age of 76, was Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady and a leading advocate for women’s empowerment and social justice. Her passing has drawn tributes from across the nation, with many emphasizing her lifelong dedication to public service and her transformative role in Ghanaian politics and society.
