The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has begun the process to select a new parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central, following the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who lost his life in the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight others.

In a statement issued by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on Wednesday, August 20, the Party announced that nominations would be opened at its Northern Regional Office.

Aspirants are required to pay GH¢5,000 for nomination forms and GH¢40,000 as a filing fee, with women and persons with disabilities enjoying a 50 percent concession.

All payments are to be made directly into the NDC’s account at the UMB Bank branch in Adabraka.

The timetable for the process opened nominations on August 21 and will close on August 23, with vetting of aspirants set for August 26.

The Party will publish the final list of cleared candidates on August 27. The parliamentary primaries themselves have been scheduled for September 6, 2025.

The guidelines further specify that aspirants will be provided with a certified delegates’ list after vetting to ensure a transparent process.

The NDC’s parliamentary primary paves the way for the Electoral Commission’s by-election, which has been fixed for September 30, 2025, to fill the vacant seat left by the late Dr. Murtala Muhammed.
